So. You have a teen. Maybe you are a teen. You’re probably wanting to give a gift they’ll use, or at the very least off their phones for more than an hour. Why give a gift card when you give a new hobby, who knows maybe even discover a hidden talent? If you’re a teen: maybe pick up a new hobby, make the most of your life.

So here’s a realistic list because lets be honest, your kid probably hasn’t been hoping that new “activity” is knitting. These are hobbies that are trending that can at the very least get them cool pics for their insta.

  1. Roller Skates- Retro is 100% in right now. There are videos all over Tik Tok of people flexing their roller skate skills, and let me just say- it is mad impressive. If you think roller skates is just for the rink- then wake up. People are roller skating anywhere and anytime. If you have a bad case of missing your golden era, perhaps this the move. Also the vibes of not having to rent crusty skates from your local roller rink? Immaculate. I just know my best friend & I are dying for some ourselves.
  2. Ukulele- This one goes out to all the musical teens. Personally, over quarantine, I took up ukulele, and it is quite easy. I have about 3 friends who play the ukulele and all had an easy time learning. It’s not a loud instrument unless amped up, so other people in the house won’t hate you. Plus who doesn’t want to be able to say they play an instrument? Pro Tip: Don’t buy one of the 30 dollar ones; they are pieces of crap.
  3. Camera- Let me just say, photography is the move. Any camera is super in right now. I have a Fujifilm and I have captured the most incredible memories with my friends on that. I also have a Nikon, and that my friends, is the gift that just keeps giving. Not only do I love it. My friends love me taking quality pics of them for their instas. Highly recommend buying a tripod for self photoshoots. Even disposable cameras have been trending. Teens just love the look of it. So a camera, any camera, is probably gonna be a win.
  4. Skateboard- Personally, I am not a skater…yet. So many of my friends love skating. A hundred bucks=hours of entertainment. They have so many positive things to say about it that I’m honestly wanting to buy one. They have so many colors, so surely you can find one for your teens aesthetic. This is really vibey, and trendy so if your teen can’t stop watching Tik Tok then buy a skateboard.
  5. Yoga Mat- I’m gonna be honest. Your kid probably won’t use it unless you get them a few classes to learn some moves. Even if you don’t a yoga mat is a great place to do cardio, stretch, some Chloe Ting workouts. Honestly exercising on a hard floor is not comfortable, so while this gift is practical your teen probably appreciates it.
  6. Vlog Camera- Maybe you have a teen that is an aspiring YouTuber. While the odds are low, they still aren’t zero. Honestly if I had the time, I would totally do this. Realistically as a teen I’m busy and probably wouldn’t. If you are still in quarantine then hey why not.
  7. Plants- My best friend is obsessed with plants. She names them, they make her room smell nice, and look really good in pictures. So turn your teen into a plant mom or dad. Plants are very aesthetic and popular among teens. Also, don’t buy plants that go in the ground. Buy ones that they keep in their room.
  8. Beads- I’m talking the pretty beads you think they want. I’m talking extremely childish, obnoxious, bright beads. These have been increasingly trendy over the last few years starting with VSCO girls. Now it’s more kidcore or indie vibes. Teens are putting it on their shoes, on bracelets, even their hair. Honestly, I’m here for it. I put some of the beads in my hair, and I got so many compliments at school.
  9. Ring Light- If you are looking for a hobby to get your teen off their phone, this might not be the move. A ring light would make their Tik Tok game elite. Selfies? Perfection. A ring light would also be a fantastic way to elevate their photography or vlogging as mentioned above.
  10. String- I’m talking the string to make friendship bracelets. It’s honestly really calming when you get the hang of it. This is great for a VSCO teen. Some teens would not enjoy this because they think it’s childish and tedious. My friends have always been touched by friendship bracelets I made them. It’s really just sweet and genuine.

Of course, this guide isn’t full proof. If it doesn’t work out my bad. Most teens I know would love something on this list.
